Career guidance and vocational preparation

Finding the right occupation – but how?

“I don’t even know what I’m good at.” – “I like cooking, but is that enough to become a cook?” – “I don’t have any idea what working life will be like.” Truth is, successfully starting a career needs good preparation. And it is doubly true for young persons with special needs. Their future life depends on comprehensive vocational orientation when they are still in school or directly afterwards. bbw’s services for transitioning from school to working life can help youths to avoid waiting loops and detours on their career paths.

Test yourself and discover your true potentials

bbw’s many areas of training give youths the opportunity to get insights into more than 30 occupations. For occupations which bbw doesn’t cover, we can arrange a mentored shadowing or a traineeship at other companies. In this way, youths can test in practice what suits and pleases them – and eliminate occupations that don’t fit.

To support them, bbw uses skill assessments and potential analyses as well as practical assessment methods such as “hamet 2”, “hamet e” and “hamet K” and experiential education elements. Additionally, we carry our interviews and find out about the youth’s interests. All these measures serve to help a young person find out where their strengths and interests are and which career might be an ideal choice.

Preparing the whole person

Completing a vocational training is no small thing. Trainees need a broad set of skills and key qualifications to make it. bbw Südhessen therefore aims at strengthening the whole person and to promote their personal development.

If enabling someone to begin vocational training is the aim, then looking at deficits can’t be the way to go. Therefore, our approach is to rather identify the existing skills and resources of each youth and to promote them on a broad basis.
